Performance als Ort unangepassten Verhaltens (Teil 1): Mode und Genderentgrenzung

Podiumsdiskussion mit Kata Benedek, Gyula Muskovics, Andi Soós und Gabriele Stötzer
Moderation: David Crowley
Mit einer Begrüßung durch die Kurator_innen

This roundtable approaches performance art as a site of jouissance: performance fuses with eccentric fashion shows, where the general attitude is one of interrogating or transgressing gendered cultural norms. Panelists are participating artists or young researchers who set out to explore this little-known state-socialist legacy.

Kata Benedek is an independent curator, with an interest in the Hungarian neo-avant-garde art scene of the 1970s-80s. Her recent research and curatorial projects aim to queer this history.
Andi Soós & Gyula Muskovics are a Budapest-based curatorial duo. Their 2017 show Unruly Constructions introduced the legacy of underground fashion designer Tamás Király to a broader public.
Gabriele Stötzer is a writer and artist whose works have been featured in international exhibitions. In East Germany, she could only show her work in the underground scene. As part of an artist group she organised fashion object shows and performances.
David Crowley is Head of the School of Visual Culture at NCAD. Prior to joining the college, he was a professor in the School of Humanities at the Royal College of Art, London, leading the Critical Writing in Art & Design programme there. His exhibition Notes from the Underground – Alternative Art and Music in Eastern Europe 1968 – 1994 is going to open in Berlin in March this year.
