rezzan gümgüm: Goat on the Mountain, Moon in the Sky, Fish in the Water
nGbK’s current Istanbul-Berlin scholarship holder rezzan gümgüm presents her work in a studio exhibition. In her artistic work, rezzan gümgüm focuses on political and ecological issues in both urban and rural spaces, addressing themes such as identity, memory, gender, forced displacement, and biocultural diversity. She explores possibilities for artistic expression through personal, collective memory and narratives.
The second part of her long-term art research project, titled Goat on the Mountain, Moon in the Sky, Fish in the Water, explores the experiences of women forcibly displaced from the Dersim region (North Kurdistan) who have migrated to Berlin.
The exhibition Goat on the Mountain, Moon in the Sky, Fish in the Water (2023) highlights the sanctity of all living and non-living beings in nature, including the Mizur/Munzur River and its water, the red-spotted trout, and the mountain goat. It also addresses the destruction caused by state violence, as well as the impacts of dams, hydroelectric power stations, mountain goat hunting auctions, and mining projects.
rezzan gümgüm has been selected for a five-month residency in Berlin as part of the Istanbul-Berlin Scholarship initiated by the neue Gesellschaft für bildende Kunst (nGbK).
