The Going out of Circles exhibition series has been bringing Hellersdorf since early 2018 together with other housing estates where artists are collaborating with residents. On a wasteland (named »Place Internationale«) in Hellersdorf, Tinatin Gurgenidze/Christian Hanussek and Stephan Willats will show work about the Gldani (Tbilisi) and Gropiusstadt (Berlin) housing estates on eight billboards. Willat's series »Living in isolation« from 1979/80 was concerned with how individuals' fight back against their personal isolation created by the physicality of the surrounding in which they were living to create self organised social and creative networks around them. Gurgenidze/Hanussek deal with Gldani, a large housing estate in the north of Tbilisi and with topics such as the post-socialist transformation of the original masterplan by garages (as economic and social spaces), urban gardening done from ground floor apartments (by rural migrants) and the use of a map factory as refugee home. For the duration of the exhibition, the station urbaner kulturen will move onto the wasteland with screenings, discussions and a temporary architecture.
