Studio visit and talk with İrem Sözen and Sandra Bartoli

Since January 2022, Istanbul artist İrem Sözen has been in Berlin on the artist-in-residence scholarship funded by Berlin’s Senate Office for Culture and Europe. During her stay she is continuing a project she began in 2016 with photographs from Berlin’s botanical garden and zoo, focusing on relations between humans and nonhumans, the history of these relations, and nonverbal attributions of meaning.

The Senate scholarship program is made possible by a cooperation between neue Gesellschaft für bildende Kunst (nGbK) and Kunstraum Kreuzberg/Bethanien in Berlin, as well as DEPO in Istanbul.
