In the GDR, approximately 60,000 children were housed in 42 special children’s homes. Monstera exposes the repressive re-education that took place there and probes its political origins. As part of an extensive research and artistic development process, Monstera creates a commemorative landscape as an interactive installation. A walk-in map for young and old invites them to practice intersectional remembrance, to share knowledge and networks, and to test individual strategies of resilience and resistance.
