Touching Land situates the objective of a sustainable educational location on the green space outside Cottbusser Platz underground station within the context of international artistic and activist practices focusing on the issues of ecology, technology, land use, and class. Josefina Buschmann’s The Fallen Clouds examines the materiality of digital infrastructures, visiting deep-sea cables and the mineral substance of Chile’s Atacama Desert. In Becoming Extinct (Wild Grass) Elke Marhöfer’s camera scans the South Russian steppe as a place in which to imagine an inclusive relationship between humans and nature. The new film by Bárbara Wagner and Benjamin de Burca, Fala da Terra (screened here for the first time in Berlin, like The Fallen Clouds), is a joint project with Coletivo Banzeiros, a theater group from the region of Pará in the Brazilian Amazon that was founded by members of the Landless Workers’ Movement (Movimento dos Trabalhadores Rurais Sem Terra, MST) to explore forms of cultural education and political militancy.

The films will be shown with English subtitles. The following discussion will be conducted in German and English.
