Luke Bildungsmoderne

with Thomas Flierl, Simone Hain and Ina Wudtke

The work Die Luke (The Hatch) was developed for the exhibition Dunkelkammer Bildungsmoderne at the station urbaner kulturen/nGbK Hellersdorf. It deals with the history and processes of transformation of Haus des Lehrers (House of the Teacher) at Alexanderplatz.

Under the motto “From Looking To Listening," architectural historian Simone Hain, artist Ina Wudtke, and cultural scientist Thomas Flierl will speak from different generational perspectives about their experiences with socialist forms of education, and how these manifested themselves in the cultural houses of the GDR, for example.

Does the shift to listening have the potential to reveal gaps, ruptures and omissions in the historical narratives of a comprehensive process of social transformation - as represented by today's Germany? And can this critique of history reshape our understanding of modernity and education and thereby reveal the fragility of our knowledge?
