Berlin from outside – as seen by foreign photographers since 1945

The catalogue accompanied the nGbK exhibition of the same name in cooperation with and hosted by the Akademie der Künste, film and media art department. For this project, the photography working group set itself the task of creating an exemplary show from the viewpoint of photographers not living in Berlin. The aim was to encourage discussions of historical and contemporary, regional and international photography and to further expand the network of artists. Over four decades of history and change in a city always focused on as a crossroads between east and west, the featured photographers captured both Soviet tank drivers and the potato harvest in front of the Reichstag in 1945, children at the Berlin Wall and courtyards in Kreuzberg, or the Europacenter ice skating rink. The show includes works by Robert Capa, Larry Fink, Will McBride, Nelly Rau-Häring, and many others.
