Günther Karcher/City Pictures

This small RealismusStudio publication, a six-page A4-format booklet, contains four plates of pictures by painter Günther Karcher (born 1949 in Karlsruhe), a brief biography, and an introduction by Ulla Frohne, who writes: “Rather than aiming for a true-to-nature likeness of Berlin’s urban geography, Karcher harmonized shadows, colors, and lights to create a mood that gives the viewer access to an approximation of the artist’s original intense visual experience.” His pictures recall an endless labyrinth, a myriad of intersections offering nothing to latch on to, nothing to recognize. Karcher is interested in the fascination of endlessness, in the possibility of finding one’s own approach to the city.
