Klaus Mettig: Works 1976-2010

In the Thatcher era, there was already a radical, politically engaged art scene in London, as featured in this catalog for the exhibition of the same name. In the 1970s, Britain was marked by real-estate speculation, squatting, social unrest, strikes, and a counterculture manifesting in independent film projects, radical art collectives, agitprop, and punk. Over the course of a decade, new workshops, performance spaces, and studios were created where important writers and artists like John Savage and Derek Jarman began their careers. This small catalog with documentary and art photographs and essays by Jule Reuter and Boris von Brauchitsch offers insights into this scene that has remained largely unknown in Germany, pointing out key political and social events and shedding light on both the possibilities and the limitations of radicalization.
