Mein Vaterland ist international
My fatherland is international
This catalogue, subtitled “International illustrated history of May Day, 1886 to today,” was published by Asso Verlag, accompanying the exhibition of the same name at the nGbK in cooperation with Ruhrfestspiele Recklinghausen. Planned as a chronological history of the “great international demonstration” initiated by the founding congress of the Second International in 1889 in Paris, it was ultimately structured around states and nations due to problems with obtaining materials from 40 countries. Available text and image documents of many kinds were collected, processed, and published in the form of an illustrated reader. According to the foreword, it can be read as a fragment, as “a series of sketches intended as proposals towards a more complete history of May Day.”
