This Italian-language publication, published by bordeaux edizioni, brings together two separate but closely related books. On the one hand, the Italian translation of the nGbK book Glossary of Urban Praxis. Towards a Manifesto (2021), initiated by the Museo delle Periferie, and on the other hand the contributions to the project New Words New World. Parole, voci, corpi. The glossary examines various concepts of urban practices with the aim of creating an initial „manifesto“ of urban practice. Furthermore, by clearly formulating the aims and ideals of each definition, the glossary makes it possible to compare even very different practices and place them in context in order to define new strategies for the future of the city.

These considerations have resulted in a series of meetings under the title New Words New World. Parole, voci, corpi (New Words New World. Words, Voices, Bodies) in which activists, researchers, artists and journalists discussed and defined different words together. The workshop meetings took place in the KunstRaum of the Goethe-Institut in Rome, which was activated in a kind of exhibition or action at each meeting. The following terms were selected and discussed: Inhabiting, Do-It-Yourself City, Resilience, Demopraxia, Artivism, Sexed City, S/Fregiare, Maps, Ecopolitics. More than a hundred experts dedicated themselves to the task of defining a variable lexicon of terms with which to interpret and shape the world that more than half of the world’s population have chosen as their reference ecosystem: the city.

La presente pubblicazione riunisce due libri distinti ma strettamente correlati tra loro. Da una parte la traduzione in italiano, curata dal Museo delle Periferie, del “Glossario di Pratiche Urbane. Verso un manifesto” e dall’altra i contributi del progetto “New Words New World. Parole, voci, corpi”. Il “Glossario di Pratiche Urbane. Verso un manifesto” approfondisce tramite le definizioni scelte dalle autrici e dagli autori, le diverse parole delle pratiche urbane, con lo scopo di arrivare a un primo “manifesto” delle Urban Praxis. Non solo, formulando chiaramente gli obiettivi e gli ideali di ogni definizione il glossario permette di confrontare pratiche anche molto diverse tra loro, le contestualizza per definire delle nuove strategie per il futuro. 

Da questa riflessione è nato il progetto “New Words New World, parole, voci, corpi”, un ciclo di incontri, in cui attivisti, ricercatori, artisti e giornalisti si sono confrontarsi, in maniera collettiva, per discutere e definire ad ogni incontro una parola diversa. Le parole scelte e discusse negli incontri laboratoriali, partecipati nel KunstRaum del Goethe-Institut, allestito appositamente per creare una sorta di mostra/azione che si è attivata ad ogni incontro sono state: Abitare, Città-fai-da-te, Resilienza, Demopraxia, Artivismo, Sexed City, S/Fregiare, Mappe, Ecopolitiche. Oltre cento esperti che si sono confrontati definendo e rismontando i termini di un lessico mobile grazie al quale proviamo ad interpretare ed intervenire nel mondo che i sapiens per il 50% +1 della popolazione mondiale hanno eletto a loro ecosistema di riferimento: la città.
