Which spaces, images, and symbols do people use to reinvent themselves in an unfamiliar context? How are borders and differences reconstituted, and which models can identity be traced back to? These were the questions addressed by the work group whose international exchange project between Berlin and Columbia examined personal models of continuity and identity as distinct from the notion of geographical “origin.” The catalog (preliminary in German and Spanish) and accompanying DVD present the three phases of the exchange in Berlin and Cali with documentary and artistic photos, video stills, travel reports, journal entries, and texts by Franz Xaver Baier, Michael Asbury, and Oscar Muñoz. As the work group’s introduction puts it: “Serving as a medium of documentation and reflection, the catalog presents the process of engagement and cooperation. It aims to describe personal positions resulting from this process as a model for actively established identity.”
