New Managing Director: Sophie Goltz

Sophie Goltz took over as managing director of nGbK on April 1, 2026.

She succeeds Annette Maechtel, who had held the position since March 2020 and is now moving to the Akademie der Künste to serve as Secretary for Architecture. Most recently, Sophie Goltz directed the Salzburg International Summer Academy, taught as an Assistant Professor at the NTU School of Art, Design and Media, and served as Deputy Director for Research and Academic Education at NTU CCA Singapore.

Goltz was hired by nGbK’s Chair upon the recommendation of a selection committee appointed by the art association’s Coordination Committee (KOA). As managing director, she will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of nGbK, whose board is comprised of the Chair and the Coordination Committee and whose program is devised and developed by its members.

The selection committee consisted of Birgit Effinger, Anujah Fernando, Jörg Heiser, Yolanda Kaddu-Mulindwa, and Setareh Shahbazi.

Sophie Goltz is a curator, art educator and author, and lives in Vienna and Berlin. Lately, she has directed the Salzburg International Summer Academy, taught as an Assistant Professor at the NTU School of Art, Design and Media, and served as Deputy Director for Research and Academic Education at NTU CCA Singapore.
