Photographer Michele Galassi presents another work from his photo series “Die Winterreise” (The Winter Journey), which was created in a Berlin shelter for formerly homeless people. His images raise questions about exclusion, conformity, and opportunities for people whose life paths diverge from societal norms, and depict their arrival in a safe haven after overcoming personal challenges.

Gertraude Pohl is one of the few female artists who helped shape the visual identity of many public buildings in the GDR. On display are her colorful murals made of modular concrete blocks: The playful visual messages created between 1977 and 1986 for Berlin’s Marzahn and Lichtenberg districts, featured on the industrially built “Kinderkombinationen” (KIKO) play structures, as well as the freestanding partition walls made of double-sided precast concrete blocks in the new development district of the war-ravaged city of Frankfurt/Oder.
