Alfredo Jaar: The way it is
An Aesthetics of Resistance
This extensive catalog accompanied the exhibition of the same name, organized by the RealismusStudio work group, that ran from June through September 2012 at the nGbK, the Berlinische Galerie, and the Alte Nationalgalerie. Having visited on a DAAD fellowship in 1991, Alfredo Jaar maintained his links not only with Berlin, but also with the nGbK after a joint project in 1992 to realize his neon signs on the steps of the Pergamon Altar. The catalog illustrates the four-decade retrospective of the New York-based Chilean artist and his work on the exposure of social, political, and social structures. It highlights the ongoing relevance of his works and sheds light on his critical methods of archiving, research, and intervention. With essays by writers including Steffen Haug, Christian Höller, Lucy R. Lippard, Chantal Mouffe, and Adriana Valdés.
