Gröpelingen 1878–1978. Mural about the history of a neighborhood
This small catalogue is part of a touring exhibition of photographs about the history of the mural on the Grasberger Strasse bunker in Bremen’s Gröpelingen neighborhood. Beside historical and documentary images, there is a journal-like account of the scaffolding being erected, the grid being applied to the wall, the picture gradually talking shape, and weather hindering progress. The project was initiated and managed by the Bremen Design Academy with the aim of “developing ideas for the visual communication of Gröpelingen’s history over the past century in painterly form.” Students asks elderly inhabitants of the neighborhood about their experiences, as well as consulting source materials and archives, resulting in a joint creation by artists and citizens. RealismusStudio invited the exhibition to the nGbK.
