Year: 2012 Type: Print publication Languages: German, English Price: 16.00 € Format: 15 x 24 cm, softcover Scope: 100 p., 40 images, color and b/w ISBN: 978-3-938515-46-4

The operations of translation – reading, understanding, interpreting and rewriting a foreign text – can be understood as a cultural strategy to cross into other cultures. The exhibition will display a market of the foreign and otherness, inviting artists that explore the tongue of the Other and work in-between languages and cultures, penetrating, embodying and contrabanding Others’ words.

In the sense of a black market, the exhibition displayed activities of cultural transaction, of transferring and translating specific cultural economies. It raised the question whether a translation can bring the differences between languages, identities and cultures back together again.

The catalogue includes an introduction by Paz Guevara and Elena Agudio, as well as essays by Agudio, Sarat Maharaj, and Beatriz Sarlo.
