Art of the bourgeois revolution from 1830 through 1848/49
This catalogue was published to accompany the exhibition of the same name held in 1972/73 at Charlottenburg Palace. The Frankfurt Parliament of 1848 is part of the civic tradition of the Federal Republic of Germany. The working group wanted to move beyond a one-sided view of the legacy of the German Revolution focusing only on parliamentarism, helping to strengthen the awareness of democracy. The book aimed to counter the “amiable” image of the Frankfurt Parliament, reflecting the full range of class struggles that took place in the age of Metternich and during the revolution. Texts, timelines, and many illustrations document the anti-feudal thrust of the bourgeoisie in the age of Metternich, the involvement of democrats in the revolution, and the beginnings of the self-organized struggle of the proletariat against the alliance forged in the course of the revolution between the bourgeoisie and feudal-bureaucratic governments.
