Exhibition materials 2 – Functions of fine art in our society
The basic research working group set out to explore the links between the aesthetic and society. Fine art, the group argued, should not be viewed in isolation, set apart from prevailing economic conditions and the ideology of the capitalist system, of which it is part. To accompany the exhibition, the work group published a several collections of materials intended to supplement and document the preceding lectures and events. This is the second collection of materials, on the theme of “Art within society’s system of production – What is the meaning of ‘art as a commodity’?” The photocopied folder contains lectures by Christian Deutschmann and Hanns-Werner Heister, as well as press cuttings and comments on exchanging artistic works.
