Dieter Masuhr: Nicaragua

Year: 1979 Type: Loose-leaf collection Languages: German Format: DIN A4, loose sheets ISBN: none

The tenth RealismusStudio publication is an A4-format loose-leaf portfolio. Featuring the painter, writer, and illustrator Dieter Masuhr (1938–2015) and his “drawings of the war and the victory over Somoza,” it accompanied an exhibition of the same name and a discussion event in the winter of 1979. During a trip to Nicaragua the previous year, Masuhr had engaged in depth with the country’s civil war. He joined the Frente Sandinista de Liberación Nacional (FSLN), a revolutionary movement founded in opposition to the dictatorship of the Somoza family. Masuhr wanted to support the movement with his art and record the faces of these people fighting for their freedom. The folder contains a selection of portrait drawings and a text by the artist describing the events in question and his stay, among others, in the training camp of the Frente Sur guerrillas.
