Sites of culture in Berlin 3. Women, autonomy, creativity, subculture
The working group on sites of culture in Berlin campaigned for the kind of decentral cultural work that had until then been neglected by the city’s politicians. By presenting various self-organized projects and institutions, they aimed to raise public awareness and highlight the urgent need for public funding. This book is the third of five, focusing on questions like “What does ‘claiming culture’ mean for women?”, or “What does the women’s movement’s call for ‘women’s culture’ mean?” Readers are introduced to Mädchenladen Wedding, Schokoladenfabrik, and Galerie Andere Zeichen, with details of courses, groups, and activities by and for women, ranging from meditation, dance, woodworking, and drawing through a girls’ assembly and a mother-daughter café.
