Materialien zur dezentralen Kulturarbeit
Sites of culture. Materials on decentral cultural work
The working group on sites of culture in Berlin campaigned for the kind of decentral cultural work that had until then been neglected by the city’s politicians. In his foreword, nGbK president Ulrich Roloff-Momin writes: “The aim of the working group was to use striking examples of grassroots cultural activities to raise public awareness and to make it clear that such projects are at least as deserving of public funding as productions of so-called high culture.” The book is divided into five chapters that were also made available as separate volumes: “Afterwork theater,” “Self-organized cultural centers,” “Women, autonomy, creativity, subculture,” “Imagination & Evening Classes,” and “Seascape – a Documentation.” Quotations, photographs, interviews, timelines, and documentary materials offer insights into a range of self-organized projects and institutions.
