Palästina zwischen Augen: Before the spark, after the fire: the revolutionary potential of the image
Before the spark, after the fire: the revolutionary potential of the image
Panel discussion with Shiva Addanki, Mohamed Abusal, and Fadi Abdelnour, moderated by Talya Lubinsky
Mohamed Abusal’s personal photographs were rescued from his family home in Gaza in a moment of calm between bombings. The charred remains of images that he salvaged no longer convey the people and places once captured, but have been shattered into aesthetic abstractions authored by the very machines of war themselves. Shiva Addanki’s painting viscerally captures a moment of resistance, depicting the aftermath of a fire set by a direct action against a subsidiary of Israeli firm Elbit systems, a weapons manufacturer.
The artists’s works portray, in different ways, the aftermaths of fire. How can this fire continue to burn within the institutional conditions of art? Can art transmit this flame? Or must it be pre-emptively extinguished to enter? Together with designer and curator Fadi Abdelnour, the artists will delve into the possibilities of aesthetics to kindle new worlds amid the ashes.
An awareness team will be present at all events. The nGbK also has a complaints procedure.
