Palästina zwischen Augen: Ich sehe was, was Du nicht siehst (Part 1)
Film screening curated by Fadi Abdelnour in cooperation with ALFILM
For most of the 20th century, Palestine’s representation was decided elsewhere and by others. Palestine served as a backdrop to the persistent narrative that it was not a country and that the Palestinian people never existed. The pictures supplied the figures, the narrative supplied the absence. In “Introduction to the End of an Argument”, Jayce Salloum and Elia Suleiman loop an archive of this narrative back to its makers until it repeats itself out of credibility. The Palestinian Revolution understood this problem of external representation very well. From the late 1960s on, its film units took matters into their own hands. They told the stories of their refugee camps, schools, funerals and fighters, and sent the films out into the world. When it invaded Lebanon in 1982, the Israeli army confiscated most of this footage. What remains today only survived via copies sent abroad to festivals. In “Off Frame AKA Revolution Until Victory”, Mohanad Yaqubi regathers this footage from what survived.
